Word Error Rate
What is Word Error Rate (WER)?
Word Error Rate (WER) is a common metric used to measure the accuracy of a transcription by comparing the original spoken content with the transcribed text. It is calculated based on the number of substitutions, deletions, and insertions required to convert the transcription into the original text, divided by the total number of words in the reference. WER is expressed as a percentage, where a lower score indicates higher accuracy.
