Monika, hi! Hi! You know that I am very fond of traveling to Hawaii. We do that once a year. Yes, I know that you love Hawaii. But it is very far away. But when we first get there, we will be there for a long time and enjoy experiences, yoga, D-vitamins and things like that. Sun. Sun, not least. But...
When we got home, I was struggling with my son. And then I met Dr. Michael for the first time. He was there and could help me with jet lag. That's how I got into this field. We will talk about chiropractic today. So that actually helps with jet lag. It's incredible. I don't think it's a big deal. It's both scary. I have a two-sided relationship to this. Especially this with the neck and the sounds.
and maybe also the lack of control that someone else will manipulate me and just give me a hand. But I came to Dr. Michael B. Dibley, and that was a few years ago, almost two years ago. And then he says, welcome home. And I was like, okay, he's a therapist, and he says welcome home. And he gave me a hug, something that is completely untypical here in Norway. So I got a feeling that I was in a different place. It wasn't a clinical Norwegian therapy center in the whole sense of the word, and inside.
At the office, there was music on the speakers, the pace was there, the room was full of beautiful art and skateboarding. It had a vibe, and I just felt like I was back in California, back to America that you were talking about. So you came home, basically? Yes, I came home, and he started pulling me by the ears, and it crinkled in my head, and I didn't know what I was getting into. But afterwards, I had a fantastic release, and I realized that this is biohacking. Yes!
This is a treatment that many biohackers take advantage of.
And that is because you become mentally more able, you get better flow in your body, better posture, less stress, less pain and better immune defense. You know what, I'm so interested to hear more about how the nervous system can be biohacked and how you can manipulate your body. Welcome to Biohacking Girls! Yes, I'm Alette. And I'm Monica.
Today we have with us an American chiropractor. Welcome Dr. Michael B. Diddley. Thank you very much for having me. We are so happy to have you here today and be able to pick your brain. But first, how did you end up here? In Norway? In Norway and everything. Well, first off, I come from one of the largest families in the world of doctors of chiropractic.
The Dibley family. So it's been in our family for over three generations. So I met a Norwegian girl at Palmer College of Chiropractic while I was getting my doctorate in chiropractic. And my original intention was to come and just do my internship in Norway called Ternus. And typically that's 12 months.
And I had so much experience prior to coming to Norway with my father and other doctors around the world. And I got it reduced to six months. So I was just going to be here for six months just to practice, finish my turnus and return back to the family practice. So my father has been running number one practice in Chicago for almost 40 years now. So I was just going to return. I had no intention of living abroad. And then within the first six months we had...
Basically from that point on it was three offices within the first year and then it's just grown and grown from there and now it's global and we have clients all over the world. So we love to take care of our people and our 360 family.
That's wonderful. And you are still in Norway and we are so happy because we can appreciate your therapy. But how do you think chiropractic service is connected or related to biohacking? Well, chiropractic you could really almost say is the original biohacking.
In 1895, you know, September the 18th, 1895, Dr. D.D. Palmer was a magnetic healer at the time, and he was one of the largest beekeepers in the United States of America. So he was producing lots of honey. And so he was observing how these bees and how the kingdoms and how the bee family was functioning. Okay? And he was fascinated by the intelligence of how bees created this magical thing called honey.
And he would sell it all around the states. He was one of the biggest producers. And he worked with all kinds of different modalities. And he had this janitor come in and was cleaning his office. And he noticed his janitor's neck was quite tilted and twisted. And his name was Harvey Lillard. And Harvey was actually born deaf, so he couldn't hear.
And so he said, what if it's connected to his nervous system, his deafness, his cranial nerve, eight vestibular cochlear, as we know today. So he made an adjustment at the Atlas, the top bone in the neck, C1. And voila, he heard the horses on the cobblestone streets. This is 1895, mind you, on the corner of 2nd and Brady Street, Davenport, Iowa. And he got his hearing back.
And so that's how the chiropractic profession started. So it's absolutely, I was like, like I said earlier, I think it's really one of the original biohacking techniques, if you will. So could you elaborate a little bit about the nervous system, how you actually biohack it? Well, what we can do is, you know, I always say upgrading it. And I'm sure you guys have talked about that too with biohacking, right? We really want to upgrade the system. We want to optimize the system.
So the very foundation of health is our autonomic nervous system. And for everybody listening out there, whether you're in your car or in your office or walking down the street, the reason you're able to do those things is because of your autonomic nervous system, which is your brain and your spinal cord. And autonomic is just that. It's autopiloted.
So there's so many things you don't have to think about that your body, your nervous system is already running for you. And really what we're in the business of and in the practice of and the profession of is optimizing what you already have and just removing the interference so the body can optimize and express at full potential.
So much like a tree, you know, if the tree has enough room to grow, it's going to expand. If it has a little tiny space to grow, it'll grow really tiny. So we might want to get into environment as well in this conversation, how environment plays a really important role for people too, how they were raised, you know, what sort of setting, what sort of food, all that. But that all goes through the nervous system, the autonomic nervous system.
And the autonomic nervous system has two modes. It has sympathetic, which is fight or flight, which I'm sure you guys have been studying. And that's really great if we're running away from a lion. And it also has parasympathetic, which is rest and digest. So that's, as you can probably see today, most people are in sympathetic overdrive. That's why there's so much illness. Because our body cannot heal in sympathetic overdrive. Our body heals in parasympathetic. Yes.
So we want to, in general, we want to be kind of 90% parasympathetic and 10% sympathetic. We still want to have that survival instinct. We still want to have that fight flight, but we don't want to run out of it every day. Is this something you can measure so you can actually see that after a session? Yeah. Yeah. I've been doing that for over a decade. So Dr. David Fletcher with Chiropractic Leadership Alliance, Dr. Jin Tempo, um, and many other doctors. I mean, Dr. Mark Carrion, who was a NASA scientist, um,
was really into pulse oximetry. So we pre and post oxygen sat rates, how much oxygen the system's getting before session and after session. Of course, it's going up all the time after session because the system is now bioregulating. But we also took like resting heart rate. We also took all kinds of measurements of both the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems, because obviously what we want to do is balance them out.
We don't want to always be on the gas. And also vice versa, you don't always want to be on the brakes. You want to be on the gas when you need to be on the gas, and you want to be on the brakes when you need to be on the brakes. So we say as biohackers, if you can't track it, you can't hack it. So it's very good to hear that you actually can track it. I think it's really important. We've been doing research since 1895.
But one of the biggest research projects was by Dr. Marshall Dickholtz in Chicago. This is the early 2000s and it was about blood pressure. And he did a blood pressure study related to the Atlas. And the adjustment of the Atlas properly lowers blood pressure better than any type of drug or surgery.
And this was a study published early two thousands. It's something we, we have known for a long time, but to see it tracked and to see it substantiated was really, really, you know, a big win for our profession. And something is, is this big difference between empirical evidence and clinical evidence. And so I think for a lot of people that have been going to doctors of chiropractic for the last hundred and 20 years plus, um,
They've known these results. Otherwise, the professional wouldn't have survived. I mean, it's been private, most clinics are private. So in that case, you have to get results. And so I think having a results driven practice is terribly important. - Yeah, wow. But why do we need chiropractic care today? Why are our bodies so stressed? Can you see any trends? - Oh, wow, what a question. I did a doc, I made a documentary film about 10 years ago
called Clear and Connected. And I had doctors from all over the world, from every profession. I took the best of medicine, I took the best of chiropractic, I took the best of all kinds of healing arts and modalities, put them in a film called Clear and Connected. And this was the question of the film. Why is chiropractic so essential today? I remember asking my father a long time ago, I said, how come we can't just adjust someone one time?
And it's good, right? And he said, well, because gravity is always there keeping us down on the planet. That's the number one force on the human frame.
Then now today we have so much stress. We have a sympathetic dominant society. We have lots of propaganda You know, we have lots of things in the matrix if you will that are causing lots of toxicity in the system both biomechanically chemically physically emotionally spiritually financially so this is it we're amongst a very very huge shift in
in not only human consciousness, but in humanity in general. And all that is getting processed through the central nervous system. So the quality of your life
will be determined by the quality of your nervous system. So in other words, if your nervous system is tuned up, you probably have a high quality life. If your nervous system is tuned down, well, your life probably isn't where it could be, right? So a lot of people come to our office, yes, for certain symptoms, but a lot of people come to our office to upgrade, maintain, and prevent problems from even happening.
So what are your health advices for people apart from coming to you and have adjustments? What can we do for ourselves at home? Well, I think basically, you know, we have a lot of axioms we live by. And one of the major axioms that we live by is how you do something is how you do everything. I was lecturing in Edinburgh with Dr. Michael Gellum, a New York Times bestseller. And the name of his book was How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci.
And he said, listen, if you want a beautiful life, surround yourself with what you think is beautiful. So I would say to everyone out there, again, no matter where you're at, if you're sitting down, if you're walking, if you're going for a run, whatever you're doing, just think about your life and think about what areas of your life that aren't congruent with your values. What areas of your life aren't congruent with your philosophy, right? If your philosophy is really natural, but you're living next to a chemical plant, you might want to put the house up for sale.
If you want to eat organic, but you're married to someone that constantly eats chemically induced foods, you might want to have a conversation. So I would say that your philosophy, number one, has to be congruent with your activity. And when your philosophy and your activity are congruent, then you have this thing called harmony in bliss, productivity, and abundance.
But when you're in objection with your philosophies or your philosophy and your activity, it's going to create tension. So I would say first get your philosophy in order. You know, what do you believe? You know, what's your worldview? What kind of people do you like to be around? Who gives you energy? Who takes your energy? You know, start to audit your life. Start to really audit your life. All the way down to the fact, you know, go in your house or apartment today and say, is there anything here I don't love?
If I don't love it, then it's got to go. And it doesn't have to go to the trash per se. It could go to Fretex. It could go to the storage. But just I would start to audit your life mentally, physically, emotionally. Clean out the closet. Yeah, I would say. And also springtime is a great time to do that. We're in spring 2021 now here in Oslo, Norway. And it's really coming to be shaping up to be a wonderful spring. It's just starting and you can feel it. Spring cleaning isn't just for your garage.
Spring cleaning is for yourself, for your body, for your mind, for your family. Call a family meeting. You know, call a family meeting. Make sure that everybody's on board. If you get the whole house on board, it's a lot easier to make a change. Yeah. Wow. Good advice. Yeah. Really good. Dr. Michael, you are an American in Norway. You have a long track record of clients. Mm-hmm.
And we Norwegians are narrow-minded. How has it been for you to build your career here? Well, that's part of the reason. It's a great question. It's part of the reason actually I'm here today, 12 years later, back to the original part of the interview where you guys were asking, how did you get here? And I said, well, in my mind, on my time, it was six months. And then there's this thing called God's time, or if you want to say the universe's time. Those are two different things.
There's a big difference between our time and what the universe's time is. An example of that is if anyone's had someone pass away or die, it's not in our calendar.
It's also not in our calendar when we meet the love of our lives. That's not in our calendar either. It's really on universal time. So if we can understand we're walking in both, both kind of this matrix time we think it is and all of our plans and things, and then universal time. And so I came to realize that my time was a lot smaller than what God's purpose for my life was and the universe's purpose for my life.
and I called my mother after about a few weeks being in Norway and I called and I just came I mean I didn't come to Norway as probably most immigrants come to Norway I didn't come to Norway for a better life I had I come from a you know wonderful life um
But I was called here and my mother was the one who really enlightened me to that fact. And I said, you know, no one says hello. And it's really cold. I came September the 9th, 2009. And, you know, no one was really social. And also we're used to eating out as Americans. And that was a big shock for me because that's very important to me to connect with our family and our tribe and our people.
And she said, "Listen, that's why God sent you there. "That's why the universe sent you there." And was to turn those people on and to get them connected. And so I think it's really important to understand that we have a purpose
that's much bigger than us. And I think that's when we really start to live, is once we start to serve a purpose that's bigger than just our lives. Kind of like your podcast. You guys had a lot of information. You guys have been super healthy, super sporty for a really long time. And you said, listen, we have an obligation to get this information out to the public, to the masses, to lead these people, to guide these people.
And, you know, I really appreciate you guys doing that. But, you know, Dr. BJ Palmer said this almost 100 years ago. He said, you never know how far reaching something you say, think or do will affect the lives of millions tomorrow.
And so someone could be listening to this, they can be at the end of their rope, and they get some really good tips or information or one tip, and you know what, they get back on track. So I would say the only way you can fail is if you give up. And what you need to do is just keep moving forward. And I think, again, back to your question, you need to really realize what's on your time and what the universe is really wanting and trying to give you because the universe is abundant.
You're not here just to eat and sleep and wake up and do the mundane. You're here to change the world. You're here to change the world one person, one podcast, one conversation at a time. But can you see a difference in those 12 years? Oh, absolutely. Yeah? Yeah, absolutely. I think that's why I was called here, to be a part of that change. And that also is more...
you know, in conjunction with geopolitics, travel trends, you know, Norwegians as they, just like any culture, the more a culture travels, the more affluent they become and the more impressions they can actually, you know, receive, whether it's through food or art or religion or whatever, the more advanced they become. And so I've seen Norway become more advanced in the last 12 years. People are more open. And I think that Norwegians aren't necessarily, you know,
Narrow minded by nature because I think humans are naturally curious by nature, but I think the last couple hundred years of a really hard time financially has also led to a limited impression in the nervous system of
You know, I'm from Chicago. It's five million people. You know, it's very diverse. You know, I grew up in the diversity. I grew up going to the Art Institute of Chicago as a child, the symphony with my parents. I got a lot of impressions. We have a cabinet in Canada. I got a lot of different impressions from different cultures. And I think that's what I would tell all your listeners. You know, really start to connect with more people. And I think that, you know, the richness of your life is really proportional to how many people you can help, right?
And I think that's really tied into your legacy as well. And I think, you know, for those out there wondering what the purpose is, you know, you start helping people. There's people, people really, people really need, I mean, basic stuff that you guys think is basic, you know, like bulletproof coffee. Somebody's never heard of that.
I mean, you know, a thousand times a day I say the central nervous system controls everything in the body. I've said it a thousand times a day and I've said it for probably all my life and I'll probably say it till the end of my life. So some of these things that we think or take for granted that, oh, everybody knows to eat organic. Well, you know what? One conversation can change someone's life.
Martha Louise and Derek, when they had their tour, I was able to see the show or the performance they had. And she has been for many years talking about how the society expects her to fit into a box. Because this is how we are. We Norwegians are narrow-minded, like you said initially.
And when we started this conversation on the podcast, I introduced you to come into a place with the coolest mojo and the music. So, I mean, it must be an eye-opener and heart-opener too for people here. So do you think you have been able to change people's views? Yeah, I think what happens is...
Every human being no matter if they're Norwegian Swedish Danish Chicago in New York LA doesn't matter We have 7.4 billion people on the planet and everybody has different types or styles of government some that there's dictators There's socialism there's capitalism. There's all kinds of isms, but I think in the core of every being is the innate desire to express one's potential and to make a difference and I think that I would be bored out of my mind and
If I wasn't part of changing people's lives every day, I love I love to change people's lives. It's it's my passion That's why I get up in the morning You know necks and shoulders and stuff like that That's interesting. And I think it's quite easy to fix in general But I think it's more interesting to help people hold a mirror up for people and provide a place for people to really heal and
And you know the philosophy is very empowering. You know the body heals itself. You know when the body is connected, when the nervous system is connected, it heals itself. That's the best doctor in the world. You have the best doctor in the world right inside of you.
So apart from neck and shoulder, what other diseases or lifestyle issues are you dealing with? Oh, everything. Okay, just give us a short. Oh, every I mean, a plethora of things, especially now. After 2020. There's a lot of anxiety. Anxiety is just fear of the future. That's all it is. And then depression, which is not peace with the past. And so a lot of that, you know, neural emotional issues.
I think are really huge now. We've seen a huge increase in our practice in that regard. But, you know, common things. We have a practice in the mountains in a really nice little mountain town called Yilo. And it's really, really sweet, cute little mountain town. And it's kind of a mixture between Bergen and Oslo. And it's kind of got a great little vibe to it. And
Up there you see more common stuff with ski related injuries and stuff like that. But again, it goes back to life quality. We had a little child in this past week as a new client during Easter break and had issues sleeping, was only sleeping about an hour and a half, two hours. And after a first session with us, slept 12 hours.
Because the nervous system was balanced. So from anywhere from issues with sleep to depression to anxiety. Yeah, basically anything related to human beings we can help with. Amazing. But how can our listeners find you? I'm sure they want to find you after this. Yeah, well there's several ways. I mean you can find us on our website michaelbdibley.com
We'll put the link to show notes. Yeah, you can put a link and then you can put the link to the contact details and our email and stuff like that. And I'm on Instagram as well as @drmichaelbdibley. So quite easy to find. And then if you're in Oslo, we're right behind the castle. We're on Oscarsgata. Right next to Switzerland. That's wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and biohacking. But we are biohackers, so we need to hear you out. What is your best biohack these days?
My best biohack, I would say, I'll give you a couple. Okay. Because I think they're all golden. We love all. Yeah. I think, so a lot of times when I was running, you know, 10 practices, people would say, how do you do that? And I say, well, you have to be well adjusted. Okay. So your nervous system has to be well adjusted. That's number one. That's the number one biohack. Keep your nervous system healthy. If your nervous system is not healthy, it's impossible to be healthy.
That's number one. Number two, you guys might have covered this before. I'm not sure, but it's huge and it's way underestimated. Good sleep.
Good sleep is so enormously important when your body heals regenerates from the blood cells get renewed It's when your body gets rest. Okay, and I would say you wanted me to maybe mention some other kind of X-factor I was taking care of a woman named XC back in student clinic Probably about 15 more than 15 years ago now and she was 50 some years old and she was so beautiful She was radiant
And her skin, her whole, her whole, she was just glowing as a human being. And I said, Exie, you got to tell me, what are you doing? And she's like, well, I come here, you know, several times a week and get adjusted by you. That's number one. And number two, I do enemas, black coffee enemas. And I said, enemas? What is that? And it's basically when you flush out your liver. It's a liver cleanse. And it's a cleanse for your organs.
And so then she basically, she enlightened me on this. I started doing it ever since. And I would say, if you want to keep your digestive system really, really clean and clear, flush out your liver, flush out your intestines, in Norwegian, your tarm.
Your gallbladder and just like every other area of your body if it's moving It's probably healthy if it's not moving. It's probably Dis-eased or necrotic you want to keep everything moving. I want to keep everything flowing So that'd be kind of my top three give us a little short do it yourself on the animal. Yes enema you can okay? So enema you can get enema kits We're actually gonna put them on our website because there's a lot of people right now who need to do them. Um,
Um, but you basically, the end of my kit is I recommend the stainless steel. Um, and it's gravity fed. I wouldn't start out with 28 ounces of organic. It's gotta be organic black coffee at body temperature. Um, maybe we do a video on this, I guess, but, um, yeah, but anyway, you want to lay liver side down. Okay. And you can work up to 28 ounces. Um, but 28 ounces is quite a lot when you start. So you want to start maybe down 12 ounces.
And you want to hold it in your intestines, right? And so basically you take coconut oil, right? You have a little tube and it goes in right through the anus, right through the backside there. And it's not painful. Some people go, "Oh my gosh." But it's very tiny. And then you just open up the valve and you let gravity feed it in and you hold it in anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes and then you jump on the toilet and you release. I mean, I'm half Italian.
Half British. A lot of people in southern Italy pass away because of cancer of the sigmoid colon. That's the last part of the colon. Partly because they eat too much pork is really what it is. It's inflamed.
And if these guys would do more enemas, right, and eat less pork, I think we'd have a lot of big reduction in cancerous behavior in the tarm. So there's been a lot of research on the clean tarm, a clean intestine. You know, it's the brain, it's the brain-gut connection. Very important. Thank you so much. Yes. Wow. Of course. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Just a pleasure. Just a pleasure. Honored to be on your show. It was very nice to have you here, Dr. Michael B. Dibley. Great to be here.
Monica, this was fun! Very fun! We have both lived in the USA for a while. Do you recognize yourself in this?
Yes, I have always felt a bit alien to Norway. Maybe that's what made me move out and live in the USA. I have a bigger ambition than my body size and that I can handle. I have a need for that kind of person who dares to show up and dare to inspire and has something to rely on. That's probably why you met him?
That was the time to talk about universal and God driven. Do you want to come and try the treatment? I have to now. This is just miraculous. I would like to stay young, pain free, without medication as long as I can.
I want to live until I turn 100 and I would love to teach until I turn 100 as well. It resonated very well with the central nervous system. We do yin, yoga and many things that we feel we are stimulating already. But to take it to the next level and start there is a good basic rule for biohacking.
Thank you so much for being here. Thank you for listening. If you are busy with your own body and soul, if you train a lot and use a lot of time for movement, then you know how important it is to train yourself and give yourself love. And that's what we want to thank for us and say Happy Biohacking! We remind you that you must talk to your own doctor or diet leader about diets or other questions related to medicines and supplements.
